Selection Rectangle

I am having a non-urgent, yet annoying problem.

Everytime I click and drag to create a selection rectangle
on the desktop it does not delete itself after the selection is
done, leaving annoying looking traces on the screen. It
does not occur in folders, only on the desktop, and disapears
after another program or folder covers that section of the
desktop and is then moved.
any helpful hints would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP pro SP2 with all updates.

Did the problem exist before you upgraded to XP SP 2?

Have you tried downloading TweakUI for Windows XP and tried the Repair/Repair
Icons function?

Might try it first. Go here, find tweakui on the right side down.

I just tried TweakUI with no positive results, any other ideas?

Did the problem exist before you upgraded to XP SP 2?

I just did a fresh install and upgraded to SP2 immediatly (I heard it works
better when you do it that way). So sadly I do not know if it is related to
SP2 or not.

Has anybody else had this issue? with or without SP2 installed?
