selection of which os to boot to

Hi,
I just reinstalled xp home. I did a clean install ntfs file system. I
noticed after the install that now I am asked to select which os I want to
use. The selections are both xp, however one has problems. How can I just
have it default to the right os?
Thanks,
John

You did *not* do a clean installation, and presumably now have two copies of
Windows installed.. You probably ran the installation from within Windows. A
clean installation requires that you boot from the CD and delete the
existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one.

Since you just reinstalled it and presumably don't have any significant
investment in what you've since put on the drive, I would just start over
and do it correctly.

You can find detailed instructions here:

1. Start > Run
Type msconfig > Click OK
Go to "BOOT.INI" tab
Click the button "Check all boot paths"
Follow the instructions to remove the invalid line.

Good Luck, Ayush.

Hi, I did do a clean install. I booted up to the windows cd. selected to
format ntfs and install. It is a dell system but I watched it format and
install. I was not in windows when the happened because that is not a clean
install. Thank you I decided it would be easier to edit the bootini file and
it works fine now.
Thanks guys,
John
