I used to know a shortcut for selecting a single column of text in a table
created using tabs. I've tried ALT+ drag, which I thought it was, but it's
not working. Can anyone help me with my senior moment!

Hi JR,
You are correct, just
Mouse click once before character or tab arrow you wish to start block
selection from, then click and hold mouse and drag left as wide and down.

JR ALT click and drag does not work in tables - you would have to convert
text to table first.

Note that the OP says "a table created using tabs." That is ordinary text.
