When I connect my Ipod Touch, I'd like it to open up Windows Live Photo
Gallery. However, the dialog I am presented with will only allow me to
select either Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition or Microsoft Scanner and
Camera Wizard. Futher, I'm not allowed to specify alternate selections as
there doesn't appear to be a "browse" button available to me on that dialog.
I've tried going to Control Panel -> Scanners and Cameras -> Ipod Touch
properties -> Events tab to try to change the value for the "Start this
program:" select box but the only two options available to me there are
those listed above.

Is there a way I can change these settings? Specifically to set it so that
it opens Windows Live Photo Gallery when I plug the touch in?

thnx,
Christoph

This program, despite its name, creates custom Autoplay Handlers:

Autoplay Repair 2.2.2 225 KB (Freeware)
http://www-stud.uni-essen.de/~sddabacz/show_news.php?id=24

Unfortunately, that program didn't provide much assistance. :( I can't
find a tab that has both of the items I list in my OP and trying to add the
photo gallery to some of the tabs where it might make sense (Images, Mixed
Content, etc) doesn't seem to alter the list I am presented in the dialog.

thnx,

When your Ipod Touch is connected can you right-click on it in explorer, select properties and look at the Autoplay tab?
Are just "Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition" and "Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard" listed there?
The trick is to find the right autoplay registry key to modify. Have patience, we'll find it!

There is no Autoplay tab. The only tabs are "General", "Events" and "Color
Management". Clicking on the "Events" tab, there is only 1 event listed in
the "Select an event" select box -- "Camera connected".
Are just "Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition" and "Microsoft Scanner
and Camera Wizard" listed there?

With the "Camera connected" item selected, if I click the "Start this
program" radio button, the only 2 options are those from my OP.

Hopefully. :)

Good news! I think I figured it out!

You just need to create an Autorun.inf file and copy
it to your Ipod. Find an Ipod icon or just delete the
"icon=" line.

1. Copy below and paste into Notepad:

--copy inside only--
[autorun]
icon=ipod.ico
label=Ipod Touch
--copy inside only--

2. Save-as autorun.inf
3. Copy to your Ipod in its root.
(Like C: but not a subfolder)
4. Remove, wait a few seconds, then re-insert and an
Autoplay Window should appear.

If you get the Autoplay window, that is problem #1
solved and you can now proceed to use the program
"Autoplay Repair" to create your custom handler.

Good luck!

Well, the problem with this is that I cannot copy anything to the touch. It
appears in Windows Explorer not as a drive letter but as a device (and
appears right under "Control Panel"). If I try to drag/drop anything to it,
my mouse cursor changes to a circle with a line through it.

(I know this is an older post, but I've been trying to do the same thing as the original poster OP)

Just to be clear, the OP mentioned that he has an iPod Touch... Not an iPod. Yeah, I know it sounds like the same thing, but it's not. The iPod Touch has the same OS as the iPhone and doesn't act like an iPod

It does not have the "disk use" option in iTunes.

It acts like a camera when inserted (even though it doesn't have one), therefore any AutoPlay options available are only for a camera device. (which can't be edited with AutoPlay Repair or TweakUI which are for drives.) The actual event name is "camera connected"

The available options for me are... Picasa 3, Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft OneNote.

There has to be a way to add an AutoPlay Handler in the registry, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Anyone else?
