original question was i need to upgrade my motherboard but i only have an oem
version of windows, oem supplier has since gone bankrupt so no back up. The
only disc that came with pc was a reload/back up cd not a disc that allows
you to repair windows on an upgrade. What will i need o/s wise to do the
upgrade ?

Lol, you read my mind , its been doing my head in since i put it on
the pc, the home page never loads up properly leading me to uninstall
and reinstall again without any difference ! I put avg anti virus
from grisoft on my wifes laptop to test it as an alternative to
norton, could you recommend anything personally ?

I like Avast myself, but I also hear good things about AVG. I'm not sure
either is better than the other.

Would prefer to "repair" windows after motherboard change but seeing i only
have oem windows xp with only a restart disc need to know if i need only an
xp upgrade version to do it or will i need a full 98 version and an upgrade
xp version
Thanks

You can do a repair installation with an Upgrade CD, but be aware that when
you change motherboards, a Repair installation *usually* works. It's not
guaranteed, and there is always the possibility that you may have to clean
install.

Most of the Windows 98 and other Windows operating system disks
selling on Ebay are OEM disks. Will those work with the XP
Upgrade?
