Seeking alternative to MS Wordpad for RTF files

Is there an alternative for use in XP to Microsoft's Wordpad for
creating and reading RTF format documents?

Wordpad is just a bit too light on functions for my own needs and I
don't want to launch Word each time I have a simple RTF document.

I have been using Atlantis Nova 1.0.0.66 with complete satisfaction for
more than a year. It is small and light but fully-featured, easy and
intuitive.

My favorite full-featured rtf editor is Wordtabs. CryptEdit takes a
close second. Instructions for getting hold of Wordtabs are slightly
complex, though, so I'll lazily not work that out, unless I have to.
And as to Cryptedit (Pricelessware), I see that it's already been
recommended. I was popping by this thread simply to add to the list
of possibilities one that doesn't get much mention.

Delphad Lite

I cannot claim any serious amount of time using it, but those times that
I've assessed it, seemed all right, and has various features....

.. . . .
One small warning for anyone testing. One of the earlier incarnations
of Delphad Lite was shipped with a really nasty installer, which made
all kinds of unpleasant registry changes. Not only seized .txt and .rtf
associations, but also rewrote a bunch of inet-related filetype keys
(ftp, html, etc) into garbage (c:\iexplore.exe or something). Reviewing
my records, I see that my install of a subsequent version was different;
the author had switched to Inno, and used mild actions. But, even if
now straight, one should protect themselves. As with any installation.
Use TUN for example, or some equal strategy.

I too like Word Tabs, but prefer CryptEdit because (you guessed it) it's a 1
File Wonder, and is extremely compact. A nice feature of CryptEdit is that
it uses the MS Office dictionary. If one doesn't have Office, they can D/L a
stand-alone dictionary from CryptEdit.

If only Atlantis Nova had a spell checker! :)

"To take a free test drive, download a trial copy today!"

Yes, it's a reasonably good product. It's shareware, expires in 30 days.
I've had a copy for about a year, and it doesn't know how to count -- it
has never expired.

I don't think they've updated it in a long time.

Bob-

Try CryptEdit. The PolyEdit (payware) dictionaries and add-ons work in
the CryptEdit freeware as well. Get CryptEdit, the 4.1 update, the
English dictionary. I think you'll be impressed.

CryptEdit is at the bottom of this page:
