Seeing a web within the web within the web....

Hello-
I'm on Frontpage 2003, Windows XP Pro. I was exploring
web files on my hard disc (one called 'My Web 9') to
delete 'Thumb' files and noticed seeing the folder 'My
Web 9' within the web, 'My Web 9'. Then, exploring
further, I found more 'My Web 9' folders within these
folders !! This web has been published for a while and
works fine, so I'm curious as to how this happened. I
went ahead and deleted these extraneous 'my web
9'folders.
I attempted to publish (synchronize) just to see what
would happen and it brought up that 'My Web 9/404.htm'
exists on the server desination but not on the web. Is
this a file that I should keep? Have I made a mistake to
delete those extra 'My Web 9' folders ?
I've had several years experience with Frontpage, but I
must admit, I'm bad about keeping my files & folders well
organized. Any tips there also are appreciated. For
instance, can I organize pages, images etc. in folders of
my own choosing ? Or will I mess up the publishing
process or structure of the web by doing so ?
I know this is a handful. Thanks for any
ideas,...Brightbelt

You should not edit files / folders in a FP web outside of FP
In IE find and delete ALL FP web cache files (*.web files)
Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
Reopen your local web in FP and run a tools recalculate hyperlinks
Then a File Publish Site
- recommend setting the publishing option to ALL and if asked about any other files on your remote site say yes to deleting them
(the extra files are probably there from previous publishing of your site)
You can also open you remote site in FP and look for the "duplicate" folders or subweb there to delete them before you publish from
your local (hard disc based web)

Thanks so much for your help. I just kinda needed the
courage and encouragement. It published just fine. And
thanks also for the info about the *.Thumbs files - I
think those have been messing me up for a while. This is
the first time in a long time I have been able to click
the 'Publish' button and have it all go smoothly. I've
been doing the 'publish selected files' routine for a
long time. Thanks again,...Brightbelt
