How can I tell if someone has set themselves up to
be able to have access to my computer from their
computer?
If they do have access to my computer, how can I
put in a lock from my computer to keep them out?

They will need proper credentials to access your computer such as logon name/password
of a local account or domain account unless you are using simple file sharing and/or
the guest account that you would want to disable [if possible - not sure about XP
Home]. You should also use complex passwords. You can enable auditing of logon events
and view the security log in Event Viewer to see who is accessing or attempting to
access your computer. A firewall is needed [built in XP one is sufficient] to block
access from untrusted networks like the internet while the "access this computer from
the network" user right in Local Security Policy can be modified to control remote
access to shares/Computer Management. If you are not using Remote Access on an XP Pro
computer, then disable it in system properties/remote. My experience is with XP Pro,
so possibly some of my response will not apply to a XP Home user.--- Steve
