Security update needed?

I use Secunia PSI on my two computers--one running WinXP Home and the other
WinXP Pro--to let me know when programs need to be updated because they're
insecure. I do regular updates through the Microsoft Update site whenever I
get the yellow shield in my system tray.

I installed Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 a while back and have done
all the security updates that Microsoft said to do, including SP2. However,
Secunia PSI now informs me that the PowerPoint viewer on both of my
computers is insecure. I checked PPTVIEW.EXE and found it to be version
12.0.6414.1000, dated 11/20/08. According to the following Microsoft
website, the current version is 12.0.6502.5000, dated 3/28/09:

In theory, this version should have shown up on the Microsoft Updates site,
but it isn't in my log of downloaded updates, and it isn't shown as
available for downloading there. If it's necessary, I probably could
download it from

But is it necessary? And if so, why hasn't it appeared in the Microsoft
Updates?

Re the viewer update:


It's probably a good idea to install it.


Possibly the update check only examines some, not all apps (and the free
ones drop off the list ahead of the
others)? No idea, really.
