Security Problems

I can not seem to secure my databases! I followed the SECFAQ and secured
one. Now, I would like to use the same .mdw for all the databases I create
for my company, handling permissions in the groups, not the individual
users. But I can't seem to seal people from just clicking on the database.
It should work so that only the shortcut i created allows access to the
database, but it doesn't.

The SECFAQ doesn't cover how to secure databases after you have a workgroup
file you want.

Thanks. Sean.

Are you saying that they can open the database not using your MDW? That
implies you forgot to remove the Admin user from the Admins group (step 6 in
the first section of the FAQ)

Nope, Admin removed. The thing is that I can not get the database to "lock"
to a company.mdw. It keeps allowing system.mdw to open the database.
Company.mdw was already built for another database, and works fine for it.
It is getting it to also become the .mdw for my new database that is the
problem.

What is the procedure for securing a database with an existing .mdw?

Thanks. Sean.

did you create the database while logged in to the workgroup?
If not, create a new db while logged in and import the existing db.

Problem solved! How you wonder? I can't remeber!

I started typing a response, a thought hit me, I did it, and right when i
was done I got called away for 30 minutes. Now I can't remember.

I opened a blank with my company.mdw, saved the new database, entered my
password (from company.mdw), and it was open.

I think I next closed it, opened it regular (using system.mdw) and set a
password for the Admin user.

Closed it, opened again with my company.mdw, and proceeded to import the
objects from the unsecured database.

Reset all the permission after importing, saved and closed.

Reopened without company.mdw, entered Admin password, then cleared Admin
password.

Closed.

Now it seems to be working, I am going to try this again to see if that is
indeed how it happened.

Thanks fellas! Sean.
