Hello,

On Windows XP there is an option to make private any
directory. I made private one of my directories, and my
windows crashed. Therefore, I had to re-install it. But
now that I try to access that directory, it won't allow me.
I have tried changing permissions, taking ownership. But
when it comes to taking ownership, the check box is grayed
out or is simply missing.

How can I access these files?

Best Regards

IMA

The security key that was in your old profile is what you
needed to access the files.

Any ideas out there on how to recover the old profile?

Changing ownership has to be done from a logon that has Administrator
status. If your account is a restricted/limited one, log on in Safe
mode in the account called "Administrator" and do it from that
