Hello,

On Windows XP there is an option; to make private any
directory. I made private one of my directories, and my
windows crashed. Therefore, I had to re-install it. But
now that I try to access that directory, it won't allow me.
I have tried changing permissions, taking ownership (with
Windows 2000) But when it comes to taking ownership, the
check box is grayed out or is simply missing.

How can I access these files?

Best Regards

Perhaps someone else will have a better answer, but I just rescued a
client's files from an XP hard drive that wouldn't boot (and he had
made his files private, so he couldn't get them from a working XP box)
by using Knoppix. Knoppix is a Linux distro that runs from cd. If your
machine has two cd drives, one of which is a cd-rw, boot with Knoppix
(which will see the XP files and be unaware of the Private permissions)
and burn the data to cd-r with k3b.
