I am running a Media Center 2004 machine. After installing SP2 I wnt to set
up a etwork with a wireless laptop (XP Home SP2).

I can connect to the laptop but the laptop cannot cnnect to the media center
- no permissions. I read the posts and relaised that it was the Windows
Firewall - however, the service is not running and in the security centre I
cannot turn the firewall on or off.

I do not want to restore prior to SP2 (if you even can) - so what can I do?
I have researched and researched but no answer seems to pop up?

Cheers

Simon

I doubt it is the firewall. Maybe you could provide some more details. The
wireless support is much improved in SP2.

Simon,

The Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing service has to be running for
you to have connectivity. Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. If
the service gets turned off, your incoming connectivity goes (WF does not
protect against outgoing traffic). It's like a fuse - for protection, you lose
service.

Once you restart the service, check the WF settings and enable the File and
Printer Sharing exception. Edit it's setting, and make sure it's Scope is set
to Subnet.
