Security for discussion site

I have a discussion site on a subweb. (FP 2003)
I would like to have anyone be able to browse messages.
I would like to have only those with a password to be able to post
messsages.
I have set permissions and created a user with a password.
Right now the site doesn't ask for a password before accepting a new
message.

You would need a discussion/bulletin board script more comprehensive that
the one in Frontpage.

Something like www.phpBB.com or www.yabb-forum.com or any one of thousands
of others around.

The above ones have user-sign up routines, and only those signed up can post
and reply to messages.

The one you use depends on your host server, and the scripting language
they support.
