Security Failure

I used the security wizard to secure a database. To see what would happen in
the absence of the security file that contains all the groups I moved that
file to my thumb drive and disconnetec my thumb drive. When I tried to open
my database base it defaulted to general securtiy settings for Access and I
was able to to do what ever I wanted in my database.

The database doesn't seem very secure if all you have to do is remove the
external file or move the database to another system without the security
file and let it default to the factory settings to get into it.

That means you didn't do it correctly. What version? In some of the
versions (2000 I think) the wizard does NOT produce a properly secured file.

Most likely "Admin" still owns everything.

The problem with using the wizard is that it does stuff behind the scenes
and you gain no appreciation of User Level Security and how to trouble-shoot
when things go awry. The FAQ is essential reading if you want to take
security seriously, there's a link to it on my web site along with a
step-by-step example to give you a "flavour".

Not sure what the cuase was of the original problem, but I followed yours
(Keith's) FAQ step by step and the security works as one whould expect it to
work.

Glad it helped but remember that my example is no substitute for the FAQ
from MS :)
