secure web sight issue

I have a problem with a Dell desktop XP home, everytime I
go to a secure sight such as https://.... or try to
purchase something like a virus scan, IE6 displays "Page
cannot be displayed". In internet options I set the
SECURITY, PRIVACY and ADVANCE to default. No change. Can
anybody help
