Second Try. Strange new named folders in Vista root folder.

This is my second post at this from a few days back hoping somebody can
answer me.

On all my drives I have two strange named folders in the root directory.
Something like D:\0fa08d9c08ef5fa0d75624c377b0790a
Clearly they are something related to Vista/Security. If as an administrator
I open one. I see a file:- msxml4-KB927978-enu.log
The date seems to be at the Vista install date.
Even as an Administrator I don't seem to have access to remove them.
Seems to be the same file on all drives.

What are thes files?
Can I tidy my disks up by removing them?
How do I get access?

yes.. I cant imagine why no one answerd you the first time...

those are temporary folders that the security patches need to deflate the
installers...

I think that particular one is installed after you install office

more info here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=927978

you can delete them... this is normal...

from the above site:

Security update package 927978 may create a log file. The package names the
log file KB927978.log. The package saves the log file inside a folder. The
folder has a system generated name. The folder is in the root of a system
drive. The path resembles the following:
C:\system generated name\KB927978.log.
Note In this example, C is system drive.

Although it is optional, you can remove the log file and the folder.

I dont know why you cannot gain access to them though...

I know a few tricks you might try if you really want to do it...

If this is a retail version of Vista you have and it's within 180 days of
you activating the product, then call MS for its free Vista support.

Thanks Tiberius. That was most helpful. For some reason this time I could
delete them with no problem.
Have a clean Root folder now!

The only problem Mr Arnold is that you cannot get through. For the past week
I have tried at all times of the day and evenings to get through. If you
dial the 1-866 452 4755 number and the take option #2. You get a "please
wait" followed by "Your call cannot be completed at this time please try
later". Microsoft must be pinching budgets with one operator for worldwide
service! That phone support system is a joke.
Other people try the above and confirm. You will see what I mean.

I called 1-800-555-1212, told the automated service I wanted Microsoft and
got the 800 number not an 866 number. I called the 800 number twice that I
have had to use the number and got through within seconds to talk to a front
line person that took my Vista info. He or she then put me through to tech
support and that took seconds too.
