I use Outlook Express ("OE") for reading and writing to newsgroups. I do a
Search (Shift and F3) and OE finds my name ("karas") for top level messages
only. This is okay for discussions that I initiate -- I just click on the
plus sign ("+") for the replies.

However, for second level messages (messages that I replied to) this method
does not work: I cannot find my replies. How can I search for second level
messages?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

Turn off threading, sort by "From" and scroll to your name.

How?

1. To turn off threading, go to View | Current View, and click to uncheck
"Group Messages by Conversation"

2. To sort by "From," click on the From column header.

You'll probably want to undo these changes after you find what you're
looking for.

How do I turn off threading? And where do I sort?

Thank you,

Messages by Conversation."

And where do I sort?

Click on the header of the "From" column. Click it a second time to reverse
the sort from ascending to descending, or vice-versa.

How would I turn off threading?

View | Current View. Uncheck Group Messages by Converstaion.

But perhaps a better choice, which I should have mentioned earlier, is to
go to Message Rules, and create a rule to mark all messages in threads
you've participated in with a particular color.

For example, here's my rule:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'Ken Blake'
Highlight it with Red
and Flag it
and Mark the message as watched

Ken

It's easier just to select Replies to my messages and deselect
when you want to look for new threads which may be of interest.

My approach keeps one aware of what others are saying in the
thread, which you can otherwise miss.

I do use a highlight rule but do not mark it as watched.

Occasionally I mark messages as Watched in threads where
I would like to know the answer and are not intending to post.
