Second computer

Hi all,

I am wondering, if I get a second computer can I install my same copy
of Windows 2000 on it to create a LAN? Or do I have to have a
separate copy for each computer? Also, will Windows Update work on
both computers?

Thanks, Bob! That hardly seems fair to me at all. Just one copy per
computer? It makes no sense if I'm trying to build a LAN. Thanks

Always been that way. Heck a LAN can have thousands of PC's. If you want
free operating system licenses then Windows is not the way to go.

Yes, I understand. Linux, right? But all my software is for Windows,
so I guess that's where I'll have to stay. If Linux had an easy GUI,
like Windows, I really would consider switching. Thanks again, Bob.

You might try Linux for the second computer and use it for surfing the
web, email, etc. I use it for everything except those programs that do
not have free Linux work alikes. I know this is mainly a windows forum
but the reality is that both have their strong points and can work together.

Well... Linux is completely unknown territory for me. I've never seen
a computer that runs Linux so I have no idea how hard or easy it would
be to work with. I appreciate the suggestion, though. I'm thinking
if I do get a new computer, I'll get it with Win XP, but I'm still
unsure of what I'll do. Thanks again.

I don't know where you are located but here in Southern California a
company called Fry's Electronics regularly has a Linux box running
Lindows 5.0 from www.Linspire.com on sale for under $200. 40G drive,
128meg, cd, 1.7 to 2.2 AMD, keyboard, mouse, etc. all you need is a
monitor. I have obtained 3 over the past year & a half and had no
problem with any of them. I have partitioned the drive on one and
loaded W98se dual boot just to see how it behaved and it worked just
fine. Definately not a gamers box but for basic business it works fine.
Other linux OS's have more horsepower but for basic use it works.

Several other companies have low cost linux boxes as well.

That sounds promising! Lindows sounds like it has a Windows-like GUI?
