Can anyone tell me if there is a way in Windows XP to seach for and list all
available files that contain icons on my PC? I'd often like to make the
icons for folders on my desktop more relevant to what is contained within
them.

Go to this URL:

http://www.mrfreefree.com/free_software/icon_management_tools.html

At the bottom of the page is one called "JoneSoft Icon Extractor". I've
used it for years, and recommend it for exactly what you want. It was
written for W95/98 but runs perfectly in XP. Very small footprint.
Good luck.

Nice tool! The link you quoted appears to be out of operation but this
one works:

Hi Tony,

When I clicked on the URL for the "JoneSoft Icon Extractor", I got a 404
Error -- The page you are looking for cannot be found.
