Searching message for hyperlinks..

J

Jon Kloske

Hi,

This is something that's been around since OE days, but I'm finally over it
and thought I'd ask:

If I get an email with a lot of URLs etc in it (as plaintext) OE stops
responding for 2 minutes or so when I click on it with the statusbar message
"Searching message for hyperlinks..."

I get a lot of mails with proxy logs in them, and it makes it really
annoying to use OE.

Surely this hyperlink conversion process should either only search for the
first 50 or so before giving up, or better yet run in the background in
another thread, rather than the main application? Or there should be an
option to turn off the hyperlink behavior (though this would be annoying for
RT emails...)

Anyway, I couldn't find anything in the outlook express lists either (and
I'm aware WM and OE aren't the same thing, but saying they are totally
different like I've seen some on this list recently claim is completely
stupid) so I thought I'd ask finally.

Regards,
Jon.

The only thing I know is to disable the preview pane, but others have
suggested it doesn't work.

Another OE issue carried over I guess.

True - at least then you only have to wait 5 minutes when you actually want
to read the message...

*laughs* but gee, I hear from other sources on this newsgroup that WinMail
is totally different from OE! :)

Thanks anyway for confirming the problem has at least stumped other people
and it's not just me.

If MS listens to anything in this group rather than just hosting it, can we
please get this fixed?

Cheers,
Jon.
