searching mapped drives

Windows 2000 with office XP. When I try to save something
within a office program when I am offline it takes forever
to populate the drop down list. I believe it is trying to
look for the mapped drives which of course are not
connected. How do I make it not search for those drives
when offline?

I have a similar problem with open file directory boxes in general on Windows 2000. I thought it might be because of
virus checking, which I disabled, then perhaps my Novell client. Who the heck knows? I'm interested if you find a
solution. Probably some network issue.
