Searching for files using file properties

I can set the "file properties" for just about every kind
of file ... but how can I search and find ALL files with a
given "subject" or that are in a specific "category" or
that were authored by a specific person? That's possible
from within an Office "open" dialog box using an advanced
search ... but how can I do that from an "explorer"
window? I don't see a way to do that from the search
pane. Do any of you folks know of a good little utility
that I might be able to use to enable that type of a
search on my local drives or on my land-connected drives?

Hello

*category* and *subject* properties are specific to the *office* files. Not
every
file contains these properties. It may be
appropriate to ask this question in

microsoft.public.office.* groups.
