searching files

When searching for a text string (like 'cussler") in a folder of Works files,
there are no findings even when I know there are several instances of that
string there. The search function does not work on the works files but does
work on other files. Has anyone else seen this?

Check the settings for .wps files etc via

Control Panel > Indexing Options > Advanced > File Types

If it's set for 'File properties only' then that would explain it.

You might need to install a special IFilter for MSWorks if the text Ifilter
doesn't do the trick.

I tried changing the file type as suggested without any results. Thanks for suggestion.

If it's an older version of Works, then according to this thread it doesn't
sound promising.

There's a half-suggestion that comes from that thread, which would be to
convert the files into a format that is indexable. There are usually various
options on the File > Save as .. menu that you could potentially use.
