Every time I search discussions I get no results returned. When I first go to
a catagory I can see previous postings but even if I choose a keyword from
the list of the posts I can see I get a "no results returned" message. I
tried deleting my cookies in case that was the problem (I had a problem with
accessing a webpage in which deleting cookies fixed it). Any ideas why this
silly thing won't let me search? I'm using a hp computer with Athalon 64
processor and I'm running XP Professional. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Describe exactly what you do and get on such a failed attempt. It should
work but you've provided NOTHING to work with.

I type in "restrricted access" and hit "go" and i get no results....I type in
"virus" and click "go" and get no results....I am on my son's laptop
now...different system, etc. I type in "windows" I click "go" I get no
results...i'm begining to think there's something wrong with the search
funtion on the site. Could you try it and see if you can get it to work?

Thanks for responding so quickly!

Lots of people who use the web interface (as you are doing) have reported
this problem in the past week. Since none of the regular helpers (like me)
use the web interface because it is so awful, we don't have answers as to
how to fix it.

Instead, use Google Groups Advanced Search to search newsgroups for topics
of your choice. Also, you should set up a newsreader to access these
groups. It is very easy to do. Here's information about that:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn
to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you
can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are some links to
information about newsgroups:

Stop using the lousy web interface. Use a newsreader. Outlook Express in
XP can handle newsgroups. Here is a link on how to set it up.

Since he posted his original message I assumed he was discussing the OE Find
features; but maybe not. You could be right, I think.

OK, but what are you typing those things into? Google? OE's Find box?
Which Find box? And so forth.
In OE, Edit, Find, Message should get you a dialog with lots of options to
choose from. But if you're accessing this stuff from your browser, then
it's an entirely different ballgame.

Try again to describe it, right from the very beginning and how you got to
the place where you're typing that stuff in.

But what program are you using to do the searching?

Sorry; I went back and checked the Original message; it is a web reader, not
OE. I can't help with that, bunky; sorry.

I'm using the web interface on microsoft.com. Evidently, that may be part of
the problem but I've never had problems with it before...hmmm.

Thanks for responding and I did get the message that it's out of your area
of expertise. I just appreciate your being willing to help.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've used the web interface for some time
now and have never had a problem....guess it was just a matter of time. I
would also like to thank you for being kind in your reply...I've had other
reply's in the past that sound as if the person responding is annoyed and
thinks I'm an idiot because I don't know the answer.

Thanks for all your help!!!
You really are a MVP!

Folks would have given you the solution if there was one, but there isn't.
It's something on the MS web site for the web interface that's not working.
We can't fix it nor can you. It's an MS issue. The best advice we could
give was to use a newsreader so you don't have the problems of the web
interface. This is just one recent manifestation of the problems with it.
Accessing Usenet newsgroups through a newsreader is a much, much better
experience.
