I would like to search my hard drive for all license protected wma files
(only those with lowercase .wma extensions; .WMA files are easy to find with
XP's regular search function). This property can be found under the file's
Properties>Summary tab>Origin - Protected (Yes or No). I tried using
Microsoft Word's advanced search function, but it did not seem to be able to
search for the "Origin" or "Protected" property. I also looked at the file
describing DSOfile utility
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/resources/tales/sg0305.mspx),
but it only searches for properties relevant to Office and won't search for
properties relating to other types of files, such as mp3s, wmas, etc. I have
XP Media Center Edition in case that's relevant.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Agent Ransack($0) can find text in any file but if ur field is a bit
it may be tuff. It has a pane that displays content of file in trxt so
u can look at a few.

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

I downloaded Agent Ransack and tried it; unfortunately it only searches for
text within a file, rather than properties of the file. I did manage to find
a klunky way to find the files I needed. It's possible to list the protected
status as one of the columns in a file window, so I did a search for all
".wma" files and then right-clicked on the title bar, went to "more" and
checked the "protected" box, so that category appeared as a column in my
search window. I then sorted my search window for protected files (= yes) by
clicking on the "protected" column and ended up with a list of the files I
needed. It does seem rather silly that there isn't a more direct way of
searching file properties.

Thanks for trying to help.
