I tried to find a folder on my data DVD which contains files with a
certain name.
So I rightclick the DVD top folder and select search. Enter the
pattern to search for and let it search.

But it does not find anything on the DVD, instead there are only a lot
of hits from C:\Documents and Settingse\...., which I *did not* asked
to be searched.
Why does the serach go to my hard disk when I ask the DVD to be
searced???
And how can I search for files on a DVD?

XP-Pro SP2 with all the fixes installed.

There's an option for the drive or folder to search. It's a "Look in:" spinbox.

Double-Click "My Computer", double-click the "Local Disk (C:)
Click "Tools", "Folder Options", click the "View" tab, under "Files and Folders", check
everything except "Do not cache thumbnails"

Under "Hidden files and Folders", check "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide extensions....", and "Hide protected......"
check the box, "Remember each folder's view setting", click "Apply", "OK"
