SearchIndexer locking up my system

Not sure why it was running, but my system was locked up a little while ago
and I couldn't even get the Task manager open. When I did, I saw it was
pegged at 100 and SearchIndexer was running using 99% of the CPU.

Why is that?

That is Windows Search 4.0. I would uninstall it. It is a dog!!!!
