Could anyone tell me how to make the search function (start, search, all
files and folders etc.) work? When ever I attempt a search a box titled :
Search Companion. the body of the box says: Unexpected error. Action could
not be completed.

I have tried various things as found by google searchs such as going to
srchasst.inf and installing etc. but too no avail.
I have an HP pavilion 7845 @ 866MHz, 128 mb memory etc. Service pack 2 is
installed, but the problem existed well before that. Unfortunately, I do not
remember what program if any was installed to cause the problem nor do I
remember if anything might have been deleted to cause it.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Gord

Thanks for the help. It did not work but further looking got me to a vbs
file at Doug Knox's site and that cured it.
Thanks again.

phew! I am new here because I had the exact same problem with search
saying that it had an unexpected error action could not be completed!
However it took me ages to find this doug's place so ill try and put
the closest link to it here:
For us newbies that couldnt find that file - go to dougknox.com, then
go to xp fixes, then go to windows xp search problems, then pick the
second choice - Search Companion Error dialog - Yellow Exclamation
Point ... i have finally cured the search.. yayay
