WinXP SP-1, Search Companion keeps getting corrupted and
I'd like to find a way to stop that from happening rather
than having to reinstall 'srcasst.inf' several times a
day. The symptom is when I run Windows Explorer (not IE)
search, no results appear unless the search string is
blank.
The problem is referred to in Knowledge Base article
319949.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;319949&Product=winxp
I have used Method 3 from the KB article, but this only
fixes the problem. It does not stop the problem from re-
occuring which has happened three times today.
Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then
click OK.
Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click
Install. (Must use XP install CD, F:\i386)
KB article 319949 states the cause of the problem but SP-1
does not seem to have resolved it at all. It also states
the cause of the problem, sort of,
"NOTE: Search Companion files may be damaged if you
have Search Companion open when you connect to certain
Internet Service Providers."
Thank you for your assistance,
Jerry L.
