when I start-up my PC I have the sreen 'Search Result' appear over my
desktop\icon screen. In fact it appears twice, overlaid.

What do you get if you right click and follow your nose?

sorry -- changing the sequence of ikons does not do it. After turning on my
PC I want to be at the 'home page' ie. my desktop with all its ikons. However

I meant right click on the Search Result not the Desktop. Sorry if I
failed to make myself clear.

What has the Search found?

Somewhere there is something starting the search. Select Start, Run and
type "msconfig" without quotes and Hit Enter. Look at the Entries on the
startup tab. Post a list if you do not know what any mean.

You can use the msconfig to disable startup items to test whether an
entry is causing the search:

Not all items start from entries in the startup folder.
Everest Home Edition is an interesting (freeware) source of information:

If you download see if the answer to your question is revealed by
selecting Software, Auto.

Run msconfig.exe and review it's Startup tab,
to see which programs are loading when xp loads.

I could not fix it; please help again.
There are now 3 search screens overlaid. They are blank and ask for input on
the left side of screen.
When I rightclick on the search screen a box opens:
View >
Arrange Icons by >
Refresh
--------------------
Paste Paste Shortcut

As you suggested I did the msconfig
and there are numerous files listed in the Start tab. How do I post them?
With copy and paste?
I tried the trouble shooting by using the System configuration; no change
came about -- may be I missed something?
I downloaded Everest Home Edition and found many files under Software Auto.

How would the Search File be shown in the listings? What must I look for?

Appreciate much your assistance.
