search page gone crazy!!!!!

I am trying to update windows but whenever i launch
internet explorer before it can connect to the site a
search page launches multiple times and it is constantly
in the process of loading and won't let me close it out.
it also appears to launch it's own searches. i did get a
virus earlier and am not sure if this is what the problem
is. the virus was js/iestart.gen.d, also i got a
reg/seeker one as well. i thought maybe i could uninstall
the internet explorer and download a new one but i can't
seem to do that either. can anyone tell me what to do?
