Search Page Error

J

JeffJ4837

Using IE 6.0.2800.1106 SP1 with all security patches
installed via Windows Update on Win2K Workstation.

When launching the Search Bar, I get a File Download
dialog box, with the following message:

---------------------
Some file can harm your computer. If the file information
below looks suspicious..."

File name: srchasst.js
File type: JScript Script File
From: ie.search.msn.com

This type of file could harm your computer if it contains
malicious code.

Would you like to open the file or save it to your
computer? OPEN, SAVE, CANCEL, MORE INFO (BUTTONS)
---------------------

When I hit the OPEN button, nothing happens, and the
Action canceled error page remains where the search page
in the search bar should be.

After setting all security settings to default, still no
go. Is there somewhere in the registry or local policy
that I can remove the blocking of *.js files? Or is there
another workaround?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Avoiding the obvious, Jeff - run preinstalled A-V scanner, [ *.js ] jscript or
javascript files are usually virus bound.

Run A-V and post back.
