Search (not responding)

I find Search stops responding when Indexing Service is checked.
I tried the srcasst.inf install. asked for XP CD SP2 but I have only the
none SP that came with the computer. Then Search stopped responding with or
without Indexing Service checked. Did a system restore to earlyier today and
Search works [ with indexing service unchecked].

What now?

You don't need indexing service running. It takes resources and isn't
necessary in most cases.

For the SP2 issue you can create an installation CD slipstreamed with
SP2 using your install CD. That will be of benefit in a variety of
situations. Here are some links on how to do it:

Ok. Btw, in my experience the actual delivery time is much less than
4-6 weeks, of course depending on where you are. Some office supply
stores like Office Depot, had a supply to give away when SP2 first came
out. It's worth a shot to check.
