Search is nonfunctional

When I execute a search, the icon shows activity briefly, then stops. No
search results are found; no message appears.

I am unable to change preferences because there is no option to change
preferences on the search window.

I have tried installing a new copy from the CD, with no improvement.

Any suggestions?

Click Start, Run, then type in: regsvr32 /i browseui.dll
Press Enter
Then type in: regsvr32 /i shell32
Press Enter

The first method worked, in that Search is now functional.

However, it still lacks any "Change Preferences" option.

Any idea where it might have gone to?

Start---search---on the left side click change preferences. Then click change
internet search behavior. There you can select your search engine.

Thanks for tip to restore search My search was non functional and I follow your advice to run regsvr32 /i shell32 and now it works what did it actually do
