Search function does not work.

When ever I use a right click search function on my computer I am able to
select where I want to search and input the subject to search for, but then
when I start the search it becomes non-responsive. I don't know what is
causing it or what to do. I have been trying to set up my lap top to desk
top network and have indexed my drives. Would that be a problem?
