search for partial words on Outlook 2007

I have recently upgraded to Office 2007 from Office 2003 and I am trying to
search in outlook for partial words without success.

For example I want to be able to find words like problem34 item34 issue34
PR34 when I search for 34. This was OK in outlook 2003 but does not seem to
work anymore. I seem to have to start from the beginning of the word for the
search to be effective.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this?

That's good. Thanks a lot. At least I can do it.

This method is a bit cumbersome and I use partial string searches all the
time so I was wondering if there was a way of either modifying the instant
search so it behaves like this all the time or to store the setting in the
advanced find so it does not have to be done every time I search.

Thanks again.

You can save the query (once performed) as a Search Folder via "Save Search
as Search Folder..." in Advanced Find.

Modifying Instant Search to achieve the same is not possible.

I have the exact same situation with one major difference. I am constantly
looking for 4 digit job numbers in my emails and it is impractical to set up
a Search Folder for every active job that I have going on (60 - 80 at any
given time).

Any suggestions?

Fixed it. I unchecked my Inbox for indexing. Now the search works just like
it did in Outlook 2003.

Tools -> Instant Search -> Search Options
In the "Index messages in these data files:" box, uncheck Mailbox.
