Search files and folders not searching content of files (file compression wasn't the problem)

Something has gone wanky with the Search panel in Windows Explorer.

If I enter a word in the input area "A word or phrase in the file", it only
finds files that contain the word in the NAME of the file. (I didn't put
anything at all in the "All or part of the file name" input area.)

(BTW this is on XP, completely up-to-date on critical updates.)

(I posted this earlier, then noticed that I was searching files in a
compressed directory, and thought maybe that was confusing the search
processor. Since then, I have deleted and rebuilt the entire directory tree
completely without compression. Results are the same.)
