Search Extender Spyware not getting removed

P

Puresh

Microsoft antispyware software finds the Search Extender
spyware. But once this is removed using this antispyware
software, IE stops working, meaning it is not coming up
at all, though the IEXPLORE.EXE process can be seen in
the task manager. And if you reinstall the IE then the
spyware reapprears. Please could someone help me on this?

Symantec has a write-up on this one here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.iefeats.html

including manual removal steps--but it is quite long and complex.

I would have two suggestions:

1) try a different product for the removal, perhaps Trend Micro's online
antivirus/spyware scanner: http://housecall.trendmicro.com

2) Or--call Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) free help line for
virus and security patch issues.

If you are in the U.S. or Canada, you can call 1-866-pcsafety. Elsewhere in
the world, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number form paid
support from Microsoft in your area, and ask for the free help for virus
removal or security patch issues.
