Search Engine Optimising someone elses webpages

I have just started looking into starting SEO business and have a question....
When i get a client....how do I get remote access to their web pages so I
can optimise their site? As I obviously wont have access to their files on my
local computer...
I have some theories but thought some guru might be able to help me out
better..

If their site has the FP SE you must get their credentials from them (or have them add an account for you) to open the site online
in FP and login
