search component

Q

Qwerty U.

Hello,
I'm using the standard Frontpage Search Web-component so that the visitors
of my web site can search for certain pages in my web. The problem is: it
stopped working about two weeks ago. In stead of searching through my web
site, it leads to "Nortbots.htm" when you try to search. I complained about
it to my web host, but they said it's because the frontpage search component
doesn't work properly with Windows Server 2003, which they had migrated to
recently, and that there is nothing they can do about it.
My question is, is this a known issue, and is there anything that can be
done about it, either by me or by my web host?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Miss Qwerty

The host needs to work with MS to resolve.
Has the host contacted/reported this to MS?

I would like to add that I use FP2000 and the host has FP2000 extensions, if
that makes any difference.

The host still needs to resolve this with MS, since it is happening on their
server and has nothing to do with you. If the host is running Windows 2003,
then they have the FP2002 extensions, not the FP2000 extensions.

Thank you for your help.
I will contact my host (again, sigh). Hope they can resolve this soon (which
I think they can, as you said they are definitely able to)!

I hate to be bringing some bad news but I had the same problem this week
and this is the reply my ISP emailed to me:

"FrontPage Search Component no longer supported by Microsoft
Due to security issues, Microsoft is no longer supporting the FrontPage
Search component in their latest version of the FrontPage Server
Extensions. This latest version is currently running on blueHALO servers.

Unfortunately, Interland does not have any control over this action by
Microsoft.

Interland is currently looking into various solutions. In the mean time, if
you require a search feature, try searching the Internet for a comparable
component. One such Perl-based search tool is freely available off of the
Internet at http://www.risearch.org. Please note that Interland cannot
offer support for this or any other search tool".

The latest version of the FP server extensions is FP2002, which does indeed
support the FP search engine. The host may not choose to use them, but they
are available, so the host does indeed have control over them.

PS - Except on UNIX servers where the FP 2002 SE no longer support FP 98
