Search Companion

Can the Search Companion be turned off? I would like to be able to open a folder and instantly see its contents. In stead the Search Companion opens. I do not need this, slows access to known files in folder. Frustrating. I also know that right clicking on folder then open will open the folder without the search. But am spoiled by Windows 2000 and 95 where one can set up a well organized folder/file system and simply click through to the documents wanted.

Any suggestions?
