How Do I Remove, Disable, Choke, Cripple or Otherwise Render Useless "Windows Desktop Search"

Since a recent Windows Updatre (problaby of IE 7), whenever I run a "Search"
on a drive or folder I get the "Windows Desktop Search". I don't want it! I
prefer the "Search Companion". It works for me. To use it , I have to scroll
down the pane to click on "Search Companion". It opens and I go ahead. When
I'm done I have to close both progs. I also noticed that the Indexing
"Service" was turned back on after I disabled/removed it because it was
slowing my system down.

The Windows Desktop Companion is probably perfect for some, but I don't want
it. How to I get rid of it?

What do you refer to with Windows Desktop Companion, I cannot find any
reference to it on Google, Microsoft Site or Windows XP Help.

If you mean the progrram I don't want to run, it's called "Windows Desktop
Search". If you mean the program I do want to run (and used to a week or two
ago), it's called "Search Companion" - the one that came since the beginning
with XP. My naming of "Windows Desktop Search" as "Windows Desktop
Companion" in my final paragraph was a brain fart. :)
Try this and let me know what happens: Close all applications and when on
your desktop hit F3. What search program opens?

Windows Desktop Search
Is it a third party application?

No. Its "About" makes it clear that it's an MS XP program.
