Search companion issues

When I use search companion to search my hard drive for a word or phrase in
a specific folder that I know is in that folder it does not find it. I go to
all files and folders and I type in the word I am looking for in the "a word
or phrase in the folder" box and under advanced options have chosen search
subfolders. It will find the word in the name of a file but not in the file.
I have all critical and most recommended XP updates installed. Would the
type of file I am searching in have anything to do with it?

Windows® XP has a known issue for not finding a number of File Types when
you do a Search for Files "containing text" or using the "A word or phrase
in the file" option. This can be remedied for many file types, but not all.

The cause is the lack of a PersistentHandler value in the Registry for this
type of file. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_bad_search.htm

Personally, I don't use Search Companion because it's excruciatingly SLOW.
There's a FREE alternative that's MUCH MUCH faster than Search Companion,
and yes, it will search for text in files. It's Agent Ransack, and you can
get it at:

Once you use Agent Ransack, I doubt that you'll want to use Search Companion
again.
