Search companion being faulty

G

Guest

Hello :)

Sometimes when I try to open the search window, I get this error message.

"A file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. You may
need to run setup."

and when I click OK, the search window opens, but there are no controls in
the usual space on the left side. Restarting fixes this, but I'd rather it
not happen to start with. What might be wrong and what can I do about it?

Thanx in advance :)

Take care :)

Cancel that part about "Restarting fixes this" I just restarted twice and
both times, I still got that error message :p It would help a whole
heckavuh lot if it would at least tell me what file is missing so I could
replace it :p

Hi,

Reinstall the Search Assistant. Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View
tab, set it to "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected
operating system files [recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for
known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf file, right-click it and
choose install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).
