Search Companion asks for reinstallation

On my Dell, XP SP1 laptop, when I click on Search, a
message pops up saying "A file required to run the search
is missing. You may need to run setup again". I've tried
the Microsoft reccomended fix, (KB 319949), but it does
not work.

Can anybody suggest other remedies?
