Search-Cannot re-enable default XP format

Most of my several XP Pro systems respond to "Use Search Asst=yes/no" in
registry. Only one does not and remains stuck in W2K format. How do I fix IT?
 
I should have said in my original post that I have tried the re-install by
use of srchasst.inf several times without any apparent change. Some essential
file is needed or flag is mis-set, but I can not find what is missing on THIS
system, though I have tried to compare registry settings with my other
systems that DO work.
Any suggestions/recommendations?
