Windows XP Home, all users are Admin. When I open my
desktop, Search automatically opens a window. It's bad
enough that I have to right click my folders to open
them, just clicking on them opens search also. When I
right click, search is at the top, open is second. Both
of these are annoying.... any suggestions?

Heya Doug.... I did as you recommended. Now when I open
my desktop (user acct) search does not auto open and
double clicking folders works. However....
now "c:\Documents and Settings\my profile\Start
Menue\Programs\startup\SmartDraw" opens instead....
grrrr. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance!!!

Hmmm... second try at this. Your advice worked for
opening Files, double click now works... however... now
instead of my search companion automatically opening,
now "C:\Documents and Settings\Bob H.\Start
Menue\Programs\Startup\SmartDraw" opens automatically....
am I just doomed? Any help would be greatfully accepted!
Thanx!

Bob,

This would appear to be an entry, probably in the Registry that relates to
the Smart Draw folder. Most likely, the file name uses a long filename or
path, and isn't enclosed in quotes.

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Startup Programs Tracker. This
small utility scans your system for startup programs and running processes.
It also allows you to create a log file that can be copied and pasted into a
newsgroup post. The contents of the program window are also copied to the
Windows Clipboard, automatically.

This utility will give you a listing of what's loading at Startup. You're
probably going to be interested in what's loading from

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Once you locate the item in question, click Start, Run and enter MSCONFIG
Go to the Startup tab and uncheck it. If the folder stops opening on logon,
you've found the problem.

Note: If you decide to post the log file in a reply, its generally not
necessary to include the running processes or Services for this type of
problem.

Here is what you were refering to... I hope.

Bob,

I spoke in error :( While typing, I completely lost sight of the fact
that the folder that was opening was in the Start
Menu\Programs\Startup\SmartDraw folder. That would be the first place to
concentrate on.

My apologies.
