scrolling

i had to do a quickrestore on my e-machines with
preinstalled home version Windows xp. now when i search
the web and want to scroll up and down a page, the text
just jumps from top to bottom. before it would just sort
of float smoothly down as long as i used the scroll wheel
or the left button. i already tried unchecking/checking
smooth scrolling with no change.

Try going to: Start>Control Panel>Mouse and click on Wheel tab. From here you can change the number of lines at a time during scrolling.
