Scrolling/Dragging

I have a small annoying problem which started some time ago.
When scrolling down a page, using the wheel on my mouse, or, when dragging a
(minimised) window, the movement is very, very jerky - it used to be much
smoother.
I accessed Tools==> Internet Options==> Advanced==>Uncheck "Use smooth
scrolling", but this does not make any difference.

System Information:-
Platform: OS Microsoft Win32 XPPro Version 5.12600 SP2 Build 2600
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2400Mhz, Pentium4
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.0.2900.2180, Total Physical Memory 512MB
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 with Hotfix (KB8866903), Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019), XP Hotfixes and Security Updates are current,
(automatically downloaded/installed).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions as how to rectify this annoyance.

Can't be certain, but I had a similar problem and I discovered fine hairs and
some dust had lodged inside the mouse between the wheel and the "led" reader.
After cleaning it out, it worked fine.

PS, I have a cat that sits on my mouse!!

Me too but then he sits wherever the hell he wants!

Just my 2¢ worth. Larry

Any advise given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS (Normally, Usually, Generally, Sometimes :)

If wireless, reassign channels.
